More Than Just a Car

The year 2022 has seen the introduction of several innovative car technologies, some already launched, some coming soon, and some still in infancy. Here’s a roundup of interesting developments that have potential.

Super Safety

In reference to car technology, the topic of safety will always be a major concern. Also known as Active Safety Technology, this is a fundamental feature that every car driver needs.

This year, we have often heard about Adaptive Cruise Control – a function that adjusts speed in response to the distance between your car and the one ahead. You can also set distance manually. Next is Brake Assistance – an automatic braking system in the front and rear of the car, and Blind Sport Alert, which assists you in avoiding blind spots.

For the safety of pedestrians, carmakers have introduced the Cross-Traffic Alert function which warns a driver when someone is crossing the road. There is also Lane Keeper, which helps the vehicle stay within a lane.

Everything for You

These days, car designers have been turning your travel companion into a personal assistant or butler. It will remind you when it’s time for maintenance and make a service appointment for you. They also plan to install a sensor that will monitor your driving. As soon as you show signs of fatigue or sleepiness, and if you have been behind the wheel for over two hours, a coffee cup will pop up on the digital display. What a car!

Recently, car manufacturers have teamed up with giant technology corporations like Google, to create smooth connectivity with your smartphone. As you’re driving, you can turn on / off your devices at home through Google Home Ecosystem, from starting a car, adjusting temperature and many more. Too lazy to carry your car key around? Simply download Digital Car Key into your smartphone. It is now a basic feature in every car launched this year.

As for the automatic or self-driving (Autonomous Vehicle) market, the idea looks good on paper given the reality of actual road conditions, which come in different shapes and forms; not all roads have smooth surfaces. Even the sharpest sensor will have to bow to a road without a clear line because the auto pilot system lacks adequate information to process the safest driving condition for you. The cost is still too high.

Entertainment and Beyond

Once your car is connected to Google, the sky is the limit. Your car can be transformed into a premium theatre in an instant, with a TV streaming system and YouTube. Some companies have installed an 8K, 30-inch monitor display, surround-sound system and chairs which include a massage system.

For a businessperson whose time is more precious than gold, some car companies have already developed “the world’s first social media-oriented car” to make your car a workstation that allows online meetings, file management, and working with Cloud.

What do you think of these 2022 auto technology features? Are any of them for you?.
