THAILAND – Amid the relentless traffic of Bangkok, one taxi quietly stands out. Plastered on all sides of the car is a simple message: “Free Ride. No Charge.” Behind the wheel is 51-year old Winai Nuekman, widely known as the “Taxi with a Heart of Service.”
The sign is for those in urgent need of medical care but unable to afford transportation. Whenever he encounters them, he offers help without hesitation. The conviction was shaped by a painful memory from his past. When his mother once fell seriously ill, several taxis refused to take her to the hospital. The experience stayed with him, becoming a quiet vow: never to turn away someone in need.
Winai sums up his philosophy with a simple line: “If you recover, that is my profit.”
