AUSTRALIA – For more than two decades, Ron Green has stood at the front lines of emergency response in Australia’s Northern Territory. Since 2005, he has been a key figure in rescue and disaster-relief operations.
Ron played a vital role in founding the State Emergency Service (SES) volunteer unit in Katherine, responding to bushfires, serious road accidents, and large-scale emergencies. His service has taken him beyond his home territory; supporting bushfire response efforts in southern Australia in 2019 and helping communities in Queensland recover from devastating storms in 2025.
Ron also mentors young cadets through St John Ambulance. His courage became especially evident in 2016, when he intervened without hesitation to stop an armed attacker and save a neighbor’s life. It is no surprise that he was honored as the 2026 Local Hero of the Year.
