China – In 2010, Li Yong, a 45-year-old warehouse ownerin Ji’nan, China, took in a 12-year-old Li Shan, who lost her father since she was little and had to leave school to work and take care of her paralyzed mother. Li Yong, who missed the opportunity to attend university due to poverty, also paid for her education and her mother’s medical expenses.
Years later, tragedy struck Li Yong. His warehouse was destroyed in a fire, all the goods gone overnight. His family was forced to move into an old apartment. When Li Shan heard the news, she contacted seven people who had received help from Li Yong. Together, they raised enough funds to help him cover rent and rebuild his business. Li Shan later founded the Li Yong Shan Home, a non-profit organization supporting underprivileged children in rural areas. Currently, the home cares for three children. With each monthly support payment, Li Shan includes a card bearing Li Yong’s original words of encouragement: “Keep moving forward. There will always be a roof behind you.”.
