A Conversation with Nilraya Bundasak

In a contemporary art scene full of experimentation and new creative technique, Nilya Bundasak, also known as Tuayfoo, a 33-year-old artist, chooses to tell stories through thread and embroidery. Her work captures everyday life, communities, culture, and even fashion, bringing a fresh, vibrant handmade craft to life. In this issue of Art Mode, we explore her world through a conversation that uncovers her inspirations, creative process, and perspective on art—where each stitch comes alive, weaving memories into a style that is uniquely her own.

Could you please introduce yourself and share how you first began working with embroidery?

My name is Nilya Bundasak (Tuayfoo), I’m 33 years old and a hand-embroidery artist. I first began working with fabric at 19, during my early university years. I happened to meet a senior at my faculty who was doing sewing work—quite different from mine. When I saw it, I was fascinated. It drew me in, and I felt compelled to try it for myself. That was the beginning of my journey into textile art.
