Why Working More Makes Your Brain Go Dull

We often believe that the more we use our brains, the smarter we become and that it could even prevent dementia. But reality proves otherwise. Researchers at Vanderbilt University’s Memory and Alzheimer’s Center found that prolonged sitting accelerates brain decline, and exercise can’t compensate for it.

The study tracked 404 participants aged 50 and above, monitoring their daily routines through wearable devices for one week. Brain scans over seven years revealed that those showing dementia symptoms were predominantly sedentary sitting or lying down most of the time, even if they exercised daily. These detailed findings were published in Alzheimer & Dementia last May.
