UTHAI THANI – Outside a bank in Nong Chang district, crowds gathered to fix and confirm their state welfare cards. Many were elderly people who had traveled far and faced hours of waiting.
Across the street, at a small egg stall, Kosol Nadam overheard an elderly woman say she had only 20 baht, not enough for a meal. So he teamed up with “Kamnan Maew” or Wachira Chomphu, a former local village head, to boil eggs in five-spice broth, fry sunny-side-up eggs, and cook rice to hand out free to everyone waiting in line.
“If you’re hungry, come to eat” was the offer. No queue tickets, no questions, just the wish to see everyone fed. A single box of rice may not solve poverty, but this generosity gave people the strength to keep going. It’s a reminder that sharing doesn’t require abundance. Just don’t look away.
