As I was writing this, I was on the beach. It was raining heavily outside at the moment because it was a monsoon season. The sky was blanketed in rain that was pouring down incessantly, the sea waves roaring and crashing against the shore over and over.
In this atmosphere, it was hard for those with depression symptoms not to feel worse. Although the downpour was outside but the overflowing amount of rain also added to the water element in the body, making it feel as if it was also raining in the heart. Anyone in the depressive mood is already vulnerable and now even more prone to negative emotions, while others without the symptoms may simply feel romantic, refreshed, or nothing as they view it as a natural phenomenon.
The mind is capable of cooking so many feelings.
The core cause of depression stems from lack of willpower or moral support and inability to abandon those grievances. These conditions can sink that person into sadness, making him or her feel isolated and lethargic. Once the mind feels powerless, it will start to wreak havoc on the bodily functions and weaken the immune system, leading to several illnesses.
Medical treatment which helps beat the depressive mood only works temporarily while further pushing the negative energy into the unconscious level. If that person isn’t aware of it, he will eventually lose self-control and harm himself when the pressure reaches an explosive point.
In the karmic and energy dimension, those with themental illness are suffering from karmic restribution, whichbring a series of unfortunate events into their lives; being hatedand/or rejected by others, being denied of opportuntieis, losingtheir loved ones, failing to success in life. Depression isn’tsimply a mental illness, but also a condition of fragile mindwith no willpower. The first step to cure depression must startwith giving the patient the willpower before prescribing othertreatments.
To heal a patient with depression, the most important and first thing we need to do is create an environment that makes the patient feel comfortable enough to express their feelings to those close to them. They could be friends, parents, or anyone willing to listen to them sincerely. A tight, warm hug is also a good way to give them support and courage.
Willpower is life’s major support. It paves the way toward opening the door to solution. Consistency is key until that person’s mind becomes stronger and ready to solve the rest of the problem.
Ten Ways to Heal Depression
1. Surround yourself with positive energy – Take yourself to places where positive energy is abundant, such as a birthday party, a celebration event, a concert, or a stage play. Hang out at places with a lot of young people: taking a walk in a campus, visiting a library, or watching a school event. When you surround yourself with this type of vibration, your energy will be significantly boosted.
Cheering up someone with depression through conventional methods may take too long because the person’s mental power has already severely damaged, so this method will speed up the recovery process. For meditation practitioners, group prayer or meditation events are their way to receive positive energy, apart from good merit.
When I was visitng my daughter at University ofCalifornia, Los Angeles, where she was a freshman, I tookthe time to stroll around the campus, sat on the grass, visitedthe library, had a meal at the university cafeteria. During thefour hours there, I noticed young men and women wereblossoming and full of dreams and hopes for bright future. Onthat day, a group of students were rehearsing a play outside, while another group were having photos taken. Their energybrought much vigor and freshness.
Those working in the campus are well familiar with this energy, so they need a different place to boost their energy. Based on the same rationale and the mind’s nature, they will need a different type of fresh energy.
American people often consider puting their agingparents in nursing homes to ensure they will receive propercare and that they will get to spend time with people theirage. Some nursing homes which charge skyrockting pricesprovide a lot of activities for senior residents to enjoy suchas singing and games. But that’s the problem: spending youreveryday life with people whose ages are approaching theirlast days with nothing else to see except one elderly personafter another. The withering and frail energy is, to be honest, depressing and creates a breeding ground that drags eachother down. Compared to a house where they had lived alltheir lives with family members, doing different activities suchas gardening, light exercises, or greeting their grandchildren,it’s better for your old folks to live at their own home.
2. Have a life goal – It may not be grand, but any plan, like simply working on an itinerary, gives us a direction of life and the sense of joy to look forward to. It gives us the willpower to live. A life without a goal or any plan tends to lack power to cope with a problem. The likelihood of running away from the problem is very high because that person isn’t trained to face a problem.
A life without principles will make you drift aimlessly. Setting a life goal with happiness of others in mind creates a meaning, and helps you recover from setbacks quickly.
3. Get a haircut – As cliche as it sounds, it works. Cutting your hair also cuts negative energy that suppresses the depressed mind. Patients can clearly see and feel an immediate change.
