THE NEW ERA OF MOTHER MONSTER
LADY GAGA
IS BACK
The Queen of Edgy Glam and Gothic Pop
Few artists faded from the spotlight and then returned to captivate the world as if they never left. LadyGaga is one of them. When she returned in 2024, she wasn’t just back as an artist. Though her nine-inch heels did turn heads, what really stood out was the unwavering sense of self she had discovered through lessons of pain and growth.
The Silence That Heals:
Discovering the Power of Stillness
The world is familiar with Lady Gaga as an artist full of boundary-pushing creativity. If it’s from Gaga, there’s nothing ordinary about it. But about seven years ago, she appeared on a live stream in a way nobody had expected.
Lying still on a bed was Gaga wearing a plain hoodie, no makeup and saying nothing. There was only background sounds and a reminder every five minutes to breathe deeply during the 20-minute broadcast with more than 27,000 viewers watching. It may have resembled a performance, but it was in fact part of a practice she had long embraced. Years ago, after finishing her last concert tour, Gaga began practicing Insight Meditation seriously.
For Gaga, meditation wasn’t just a tool to relieve stress. It was a moment of deep self-reflection and unconditional self-acceptance. Beneath her glamorous and over-the-top image, which became an inspiration for those who felt like outsiders, was a deeply suffered young girl who had battled suicidal thoughts ever since surviving abuse and sexual assault in her youth. She later revealed that she has fibromyalgia, a chronic illness that caused muscle pain throughout the body, insomnia and cognitive problems. The symptoms were so severe that medication or substances could no longer relieve.
Eventually, Gaga changed her approach. She began from within, starting with just two minutes of quiet sitting a day and gradually increased to 20 minutes before turning it into a daily practice she has maintained for almost a decade.

In 2020, she opened up to famous New Zealand DJ Zane Lowe, saying: “I hated being famous. I hated being a star. I felt exhausted and broken.” It wasn’t because she resented her fans or the fame itself, but because she felt drained by the pressure of being “Lady Gaga.”
At the height of her career, adored by millions, Gaga felt furthest from her true self. Her sense of isolation grew as her personal life vanished. Stepping back from the spotlight wasn’t just about physical rest, but also emotional healing. Meditation became a vital tool for her to face her inner chaos, free herself from societal expectations, and gradually reconnect with her true identity, learning that both “Lady Gaga” and “Stefani” are equally parts of who she is.
