A Hero without a Gun

THAILAND – While others ran away from the border fighting, 36-year-old Nopparith Banha-lee chose to stay. After sending his family to safety, he kept his repair shop open. He wasn’t looking for money, only wanting to fix army trucks and ambulances for free.

Whenever the bombs fell, Nopparith hid in a nearby ditch. Once the noise stopped, he went straight back to work. “If soldiers can fight for us, I can work hard for them,” he said.

Being a hero doesn’t always mean carrying a gun.Sometimes, it’s just about having a big heart and hands thatare ready to help.
