Through my travel lens Morocco

A dictionary of color combinations

This year’s year-end edition is a collaboration of Style Guide x Art Mode, taking you on a journey to explore the art and charm of the colorful country of Morocco through the travel lens of a writer and architect, the artistic Ornruja ‘Fame’ Boonyasit. Let’s wander and delve into the architecture, design, and vibrancy of each place, which may inspire some ideas for decorating your space or home.

The walls in the Medina of Tangier

The walls in the Medina of Tangier, are mostly painted white, with doors and windows highlighted in vivid indigo blue tone. The white-washed look also gives more emphasis on the shadows in the alleyways. This use of white wall with colour accents on the streets also translate to interior spaces.

Dar Nour

Dar Nour hotel rooftop – the tables are clad with shiny ceramic tiles, connecting to the blue sky, while the pillows take from the shades of sunset.

The Riad in Marrakech

The Riad in Marrakech, a traditional Moroccan house with enclosed courtyard or garden. The courtyard is as though an extension of the living room. The colours in the interior space are built around earth tone colours, with some bright hues of pink, orange, green and blue. The key here is that the colours stay within this palette, for example in the living room, the accent pillows follow the colours of the stained glass windows, but they are of darker tones to match with the wall. Carpets are used to define different spaces within a room.
