Soul in Motion

Mazda’s Thoughtful Leap to Electric

Mazda 6e marks a significant milestone for Mazda as it commits fully to the EV segment. It reflects an embrace of new technology, an honest acceptance of market realities, and the recognition that collaboration is a key path to survival.

Will Kodo design and the soul of Mazda’s suspension tuning still be there? Naturally, these are among the first questions to arise. What’s clear is the brand’s genuine effort: although the 6e is built on Changan’s EPA1 platform, Mazda has worked hard to preserve its philosophy of Kodo: Soul of Motion – a design language that emphasizes simplicity infused with strength.

The fastback sport-sedan silhouette not only improves aerodynamics but also creates soft, refined light-and-shadow surfaces. The light-up grille and the signature round taillights remain – even if the full-width rear light bar, now very much on trend, may feel slightly at odds with Mazda traditionalists. Still, credit must be given: the effort is real.

Step inside, and you’ll immediately notice how different it feels from Tesla’s “laboratory” aesthetic or the “gaming room” vibe of many new Chinese brands. Mazda continues to prioritize a human-centric approach, emphasizing familiarity and craftsmanship. Premium materials like Nappa leather and Alcantara are used generously, with no sense of holding back. The seating position and control layout remain firmly driver focused.

One particularly commendable decision is Mazda’s refusal to abandon physical buttons for essential functions. This enhances safety and prevents the cabin from feeling overly minimal.
